For the first phase of this multi phased project MPC designed and built a PLC based control system which enabled the collection of gas from the landfill through a blower that pushes the gas to a flare where the gas is burned. The system has an analyzer that measures the percentage of oxygen, methane and carbon dioxide with integral shutdown interlocks. The system collects data and transmits it via an auto dialer that allows the District to record the data over a phone line. The system also transmits alarms to pagers and cell phones. This phase was a turnkey project completed in 2004.
The second phase was to upgrade the existing system and to accommodate dual blowers and two landfill gas powered electric generators that are connected to BC Hydro’s main grid. This allows the District to now generate revenue from methane produced by the landfill. This system uses Clearscada with E series RTU. Phase II was completed in 2010.

We have been awarded a multi-year design-build project to upgrade the District of Ucluelet’s existing SCADA system and connecting 23 stations to the new SCADA system. Additionally, we will be upgrading many of the control systems within the stations and replacing pump station kiosks. These upgrades will service the families and businesses within the District. 2009-present.

Dockside Green is the largest combined residential/commercial development in Victoria and is the first Platinum LEEDS (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) project in Canada. The development has its own closed loop waste water treatment plant (WWTP) where effluent is recycled for reuse in the residents’ toilets, making it the first WWTP of its kind in Victoria. MPC was awarded the contract to design and build the control system, SCADA and instrumentation for this plant using the GE Rx3i PLC. 2006 to 2008.

We are providing consultancy services for Industrial Controls for the utilities, Building Automation Systems, Fire Alarm, Security, HV SCADA and a 1,000,000 point SCADA system to monitor all site wide facilities. These systems will service approximately 160 buildings spanning over 16 square kilometres. Education City, located in Qatar in the Middle East, is a world class multi university education project for grades one up to the Ph.D. level. 2010 to present.

Sidney, British Columbia, Canada (January 20, 2012) – SCADA and Control Systems Engineering firm, MPC Consulting Ltd. continues to win projects on an international level. MPC’s Chief Administrative Officer, Lori Fitzgerald, announced today that they have signed a three year contract with their client, Qatar Foundation in Doha, Qatar. The scope of work is to provide consultancy services for the design of a SCADA system for Education City in Qatar. According to Fitzgerald, “this is the largest contract that MPC has taken on to date. It gives us great pride working side by side with contractors from around the world on this very high profile and exciting project.”
Education City is the flagship project for the Qatar Foundation. It consists of a 14 square kilometer multi-university campus providing education from grade one up to the PhD level, housing branch campuses of some of the world’s leading universities – currently six from the US, one from the UK, and one from France.
MPC will be providing a world-class sized SCADA system, estimated to be one million points in size, which will be used to monitor all the facilities at Education City.
In response to being awarded this contract, MPC Consulting has increased their staff and hired specialists with Building Automation System expertise.
